FAQs

The trek is challenging, suitable for travelers with good fitness and prior trekking experience. Daily trekking ranges from 5–8 hours, with long ascents and high-altitude passages, including the Larkya La Pass (5,160 m), requiring stamina and proper acclimatization.

The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November). Spring offers rhododendron blooms and greenery, while autumn provides clear skies and panoramic Himalayan views. Monsoon season can make trails slippery, and winter can be cold with occasional snow.

The trek usually begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Soti Khola, which takes about 8–10 hours. From there, trekkers follow trails through villages, river valleys, and forests, gradually gaining altitude toward Lho and Samagaun villages.

Accommodation is provided in tea houses and lodges, offering basic yet comfortable rooms and local meals. Meals include breakfast, lunch, and dinner, featuring Nepali dishes like dal bhat, noodles, soups, and momos. Some lodges offer limited electricity and hot showers.

While independent trekking is possible, hiring a professional guide is highly recommended. Guides provide navigation, safety, and cultural insights, and optional porters can carry luggage to make the trek more comfortable.

Trekkers must obtain:

  • Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP)

  • TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System)
These permits are usually included in trekking packages, and guides assist with the application process.

Essential items include:

  • Layered clothing for varying temperatures
  • Trekking boots and walking poles
  • Sleeping bag rated for -10°C
  • Sunglasses, sunscreen, and hat
  • Water bottles or hydration system
  • Basic first aid kit and personal medications

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is not recommended for beginners, families with young children, or elderly trekkers without prior experience, due to the long distances, high altitudes, and challenging terrain. Guides are essential for safety.

Key highlights include:

  • Larkya La Pass (5,160 m) and stunning Himalayan views
  • Remote villages such as Samagaun and Lho
  • Diverse landscapes from subtropical valleys to alpine terrain
  • Cultural encounters with Gurung, Tibetan, and Bhote communities
  • Pristine forests and glacial rivers

The highest point is Larkya La Pass at 5,160 meters, so proper acclimatization is critical. Trekkers should walk slowly, stay hydrated, and follow guide instructions. Guides monitor for altitude sickness symptoms and recommend rest or slower pacing if needed.
